Ica, Nazca Lines & Ballestas Island

Day 01. Lima / Ica
Late
morning, transfer from hotel to bus station for a five-hour
Ormeño
or Cruz del Sur Royal class bus service
to Ica, a
warm oasis in Peru’s coastal desert and Capital of the world’s
famous Pisco, a very strong beverage extracted from white
grapes. Mid-afternoon, arrival in Ica, time at leisure to get to
know the surroundings. Overnight at hotel selected. (No
meals)
Day 02. Ica / Nazca Lines
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Nazca airport for our flight
over the mysterious Nazca Lines, one of mankind’s great
mysteries. Tour also includes a visit to Maria Reiche’s Museum
and local observatory. The Nazca lines consist of furrows some 8
inches deep drawn in the shape of animals such as a hummingbird,
a monkey or a fish that are almost 1,640 feet long. In addition,
there are more than 100 geometric figures comprising straight
lines, parallels, triangles, trapezoids and so on. Return to
hotel or go to local restaurant to have a typical lunch on your
own. In the afternoon, City tour of Ica including visits to the
Regional Museum, where we appreciate handicrafts made by the
Paracas, Nazca, Wari and Inca cultures. We then visit the Lord
of Luren’s Sanctuary, winery factory and the Huacachina Lagoon,
a small oasis and resort surrounded by huge sand dunes and palm
trees. Overnight at hotel selected. (B)
Day
03. Ica / Paracas / Ballestas Island / Ica
After breakfast, transfer by car or bus to Paracas Peninsula,
the most important coastal formation in Peru and an unspoiled
natural paradise for a boat trip to Paracas National Reserve,
the first marine conservation center of the country and one of
the most important in the world.
Here, we observe the mysterious
"Candelabro", a curious image of enormous magnitude, whose
origins and meaning remain obscure in the mists of time. Also,
visit the Ballestas Island, which serves as home to a large
colony of sea lions, sea birds, turtles and dolphins. Then we
continue to the archeological and historical site of Paracas
culture, one of the most advanced in Peru. The Paracas culture
is known
worldwide by the exquisite textiles with combinations of many
colors and stylized designs. They also were the first in the
Americas to practice brain surgery and cranial trepanation. Late
afternoon, return to Ica for overnight at
hotel
selected. (B)
Day 04. Ica / Lima
Enjoy our morning hours swimming at the pool or just relaxing at
the hotel. Mid-afternoon, transfer to bus station for Ormeño or
Cruz del Sur Royal class bus service to Lima, where upon arrival
late afternoon, we are met and transferred to hotel selected for
overnight or to the airport for international flight. (B)
