Arequipa Enchanted

Day 01. Arequipa
You will be met upon arrival at Arequipa’s airport and
transferred to hotel selected. In the afternoon you will
experience a three-hour tour of Arequipa, also known as “The
White city”, including the Santa Catalina Convent - a walled
small city with narrow streets, passages, and small squares in
which there are still nuns living in cloisters - the Main Plaza,
the Main Cathedral, its interior richly ornamented with wood
carvings and a splendid ashlars masonry. Visit the Yanahuara
view point, a complex of beautiful arches of white sillar ashlar
volcanic stone. You will get a close-up view of the urban
geography of Arequipa and the Misti Volcano, then visit
Arequipa’s countryside, its pre-Hispanic agricultural terraces
and Sabandia - famous for its Colonial mill that dates
from the XVIIth Century, and House of the Founder of Arequipa,
Manuel Garcia de Carbajal. Return to Arequipa and overnight at
hotel. (No meals)
Day 02.
Arequipa / Chivay
Morning departure for four-hour scenic drive through Pampa
Cañahua, a Natural Reserve that protects the most appreciated
South American camel, the vicuña, along the lower slopes of
Mount Chachani and up across the high plains passing the highest
point at La Raya (14,000 feet) before driving down into the
Colca valley, a place of breath-taking landscapes and 14 towns
rich in tradition and which have preserved their religious
festivities, folk art and music. Continue through Chivay, the
first of the towns in the Valley, to your selected hotel. You
will have time to walk around Chivay’s main Plaza and visit its
thermal springs. Overnight at hotel selected. (B)
Day 03.
Chivay / Colca Canyon / Arequipa
In the
morning you will enjoy an early
drive to the "Condor’s Cross", a beautiful natural vantage point
from where you will be able to admire the majestic flight of the
Condor, beginning their slow circling ascent up the canyon and
out into the valley for the day's hunting. You will also have a
privileged view of the imposing Ampato, Sabancaya and Coropuna
Volcanoes. On the way back to Arequipa, visit a few of the
villages along the Valley which are still preserving their
colonial churches, ancient customs and traditional festivities.
Arrive early evening in Arequipa and overnight at hotel
selected. (B)
Day 04. Arequipa
After breakfast, transfer to the airport. (B)
