IQT-02 City tour of Iquitos (Private Services)
- 3 hours
The
tour will begin when your English speaking guide picks you up from
your local hotel or upon arrival from a cruise at the dock. During
this three hour tour by car/bus and by foot we will explore the
streets of Iquitos, a charming city on the Amazon River.
During this tour you will be able to see the remnants of the 'golden
age' as several buildings of European style still remain and are
proof enough of a time when the houses and streets were decorated
with glazed tiles imported fr om
Portugal and Italy. We will visit the old Palace Hotel,
a
three storey building, still considered the best and most luxurious
in the entire Amazon. Other important and representative
architectonical examples from those times are the 'Casa de Fierro'
or 'Iron House', created by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel (who
also built the Eiffel Tower in Paris), and the Museo Amazonico,
constructed in 1863, a notable example of neoclassical style. In its
premises we will find a collection of 132 life size sculptures,
which portray individuals from the principal ethnical groups of the
Amazon.
We will visit the Malecon Tarapacá Boulevard by the shores of the
Amazon River, and finally the upper and lower areas of Belen
floating village, also known as the “Peruvian Venice”, covered in
water most of the year with houses built on rafts that float up and
down as the river raises and falls and others built on stilts. The
tour will end at your hotel..
